Mackenzie Hughes

Canada’s Mackenzie Hughes was on the verge of erasing a season of disappointment with one dreamlike weekend. But he then came up with a single stroke short on Sunday’s PGA Tour’s Honda Classic.

Soon after falling behind at a 54-foot birdie bomb at the 17th hole to stay put within one of the lead, Hughes reached at the par-5 18th green. This was a massive chance for him to catch his playing partner Sungjae at six-under-par.

Nevertheless, Mackenzie Hughes was against the golf betting odds going into the Honda Classic. Despite being against the betting odds and falling behind and become the runners’ up. Hughes performance was fuelled by a source of inspiration.

Even though this wasn’t the result, Hughes was looking forward to. There are also some positives that he played for during the PGA Tour Honda Classic.

He had a friend who has recently passed on, and that was a source of inspiration. “I had a friend of mine who passed away last week in Charlotte, Daniel Meggs”, Hughes said. “All week, I marked my balls with his initials.

“I just want to tell Daniel, who’s up in a better place now, and tell his family, that im really thinking about them. Daniel was an incredible human being, a golfer at Wake Forest, and I was playing for him this week.”

However, in 2016, Mackenzie Hughes went on and win his fifth start in his rookie season on the PGA Tour at the RSM Classic.

“It has been a really tough season so far for me, says Hughes. “I knew I was never really that far off, but it’s all results and results weren’t good.

“I always believe I could do it, but until you do it, and get yourself back in there, there was always that bit of doubt.”

Above all, Hughes managed to close with a 66 equalling Im for a low score during the final round of the encounter.

Conclusion

At the last hole, the Canadian failed to utilise his chance. He went on and missed a 20-foot birdie for an opportunity to get into a playoff.  On that note, he managed to secure a second place during the Honda Classic encounter.
